“Typical Echo”
OUR FIRST DEMO (recorded September 9-10, 2001)
MuteMath is hands down my favorite band… and reading their latest blog I find out this was their first demo… finished the day of 9-11-01. It boggles my mind 1) to hear them sound so raw… they definitely improved the sound… but the energy is still there. :) 2) to go back to where I was 9-11.
I remember it more in emotions than memories really. Sophomore year of HS, two days after my 16th birthday and scared out of my mind for my big brother living in NYC at the time. Everyone was trying to call someone else at the time so signal was hard to get in NYC and watching the footage on TV I remember being absolutely paralyzed with fear… not knowing what was going on… what would happen next.
Fortunately my brother was fine… perfectly safe across the river from the crashes and all that. Sure makes you think though. Makes you want to live every day as if the next could be the best or worst of your life… not to be an alarmist per sey…. More boy scout approach really… Be prepared for anything. Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst.
It’s crazy to think how much I’ve grown up since then… the whole world has kinda. Ironic in a sense right? The song MuteMath recorded turned into a song titled simply “Typical”… and the past ten years have been far from ordinary… far from Typical.
